Newton, Iowa: Newton’s current Comprehensive Plan was adopted in 1997. In recent years, it has become apparent that the adopted plan does not address current issues, desires, and trends in the community. Since the last plan was created, there have been major shifts in Newton’s industrial sector, changes in desired growth areas, and newly identified targeted redevelopment areas. Without a plan that clearly supports the new Community desires, it is difficult for elected and appointed officials to move forward with projects that aren’t explicitly supported by the Comprehensive Plan.
Newton’s Future: A Comprehensive Planning Effort will be 9-12 month long process that will involve lots of public input to set a clear path for the future.
City Staff directly involved in the Planning Process: Erin Chambers, Development Planner and Bryan Friedman, Community Development Director
